In these informal three-hour workshops, you will learn all about the ancient Japanese arts of Boro (using fabric scraps to create beautiful items) and Sashiko (an embroidery method based on a simple running stitch).  You will then use these techniques to make a variety of items:

• 24th September - Kinchaku Bag - Decorate a drawstring bag with Sashiko embroidery and stitch it together by hand.  Kinchaku bags are used in Japan as kimono accessories.  Here, they are useful storage bags for everything from make-up and jewellery to chargers and cables.

• 1st October - Sashiko Coasters - Use Sashiko embroidery to decorate fabric coasters. Your kit will include sufficient materials to create two coasters, each with a different sashiko pattern.

• 8th October - Hand-Stitched Pouch - Make a decorative pouch using fabric scraps put together with Boro and Sashiko techniques. Let your imagination run wild with a wide range of colours and a choice of stitches to create a unique piece.

• 15th October - Sashiko Sampler - Stitch a four or six-square panel with different Sashiko designs and use it to make a wall hanging or place mat.

• 22nd October - Use Boro and Sashiko to create a cross-body bag. Depending on how much decorative hand-stitching you want to add to your bag, you will probably not finish your item in a three-hour session, but you will go away with the foundation and all the materials and knowledge to finish it at home.

This workshop is suitable for both beginners and more experienced stitchers.  The price includes tuition, written instructions, all materials, and tea/coffee and biscuits. If you book all five workshops, you will save £10 on the full price of the classes.

Please be aware that you are buying a place in workshops that are happening at the Coastal Centre, 32 Victoria Road, Mablethorpe. The sessions run from 10am to 1pm on Wednesdays.
